Apparently the work of Japanese chef Ken Kawasumi, whose other rice-y creations include Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Pikachu. Nice.

CSS is changing and a demo at the Future of Web Design conference shows how CSS 3 will let designers take advantage of some nifty techniques like shadows and transitions. In terms of browser support, it seems like Safari is leading the way.

According to one of the demo-ers, Elliot Jay Stocks, Web designers should take advantage of new advancements to progressively enhance content today; as long as the focus remains on user experience, other browsers aren't going to know they are missing a few rounded corners.

"With new technologies like web fonts and forthcoming versions of HTML and CSS, it's even harder to keep up with the numerous browsers and devices out there. And that's okay."

At the risk of sounding like typeface nerds, we are sad that Ikea has chosen to drop its iconic Futura catalogue font.

Ikea has always been a design-led beacon in an otherwise homogeneous corporate market and whilst we understand that economic considerations always win out over style and form, we lament the passing of the Futura font from the world's second most published book after the bible.

Interesting article over on Web Designer Wall. According to a survey, users of websites are becoming more design conscious:

"The demand for good web design is increasing, revealed a recent Webcopyplus online poll. Almost 25% of web users indicated "poor visual presentation" as the number one element that drives them away from websites. Only 6.6% of web users who participated in a similar 2007 online poll indicated "poor visual presentation" as the main reason to abandon a website. That equates to a 267% increase during the two-year period."

As designers, we always struggle to get our work to show correctly in Internet Explorer 6. So much so, in fact, that we try not to develop for it any more.
